Free school dental presentations and screenings
Dentistry for Children visits schools, daycares, Head Start programs, and community organizations across New Jersey to teach kids Pre-K through 5th grade about oral health, and to provide free visual dental screenings that help identify children who may need dental care. Both programs are completely free and led by our licensed dental hygienists and assistants.
School dental presentations
Our 30-minute interactive dental presentations are tailored to the age group we’re visiting, from Pre-K through 5th grade. Every session is hands-on and designed to hold kids’ attention.

Free visual dental screenings
Many New Jersey schools require a dental examination when children enroll. Our visual dental screenings help schools meet these requirements and help families identify children who may need follow-up dental care. According to the CDC, cavities are one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood in the United States, and children with untreated dental issues miss substantially more school days than their peers.
What a visual dental screening includes
- Visual observation of each child’s mouth
- Assessment of possible risk for tooth decay
- Written take-home evaluation for parents or guardians
- No x-rays, no dental treatment, no cost
The screening is a first look, not a full exam. If our team identifies anything that warrants follow-up, we recommend parents schedule a full dental examination at the location nearest them or with their preferred pediatric dentist.

Please submit your request at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance to give us time to coordinate staff and scheduling.
Yes. Before any screening, written parental consent is required. Your school or organization can distribute consent forms and collect them in advance.
Every child goes home with a written evaluation to share with their parent or guardian. If follow-up care is recommended, families can schedule with any pediatric dentist or with one of our 8 New Jersey locations.
